Smoking and Your Sex Life

Smoking and Your Sex Life

Smoking for extended periods of time will cause your sex life to be less enjoyable, and may eventually cause significant problems for your sex life. This applies equally to men and women smokers. The chemicals that move through the blood eam cause the blood flow and hormones to change. This interferes with the enjoyment of sex significantly. It may also cause difficulties if you are trying to become pregnant or of you are already pregnant.

For men, smoking can cause several problems with sex. One of the major problems attributed to smoking is erectile dysfunction. Through smoking, men tend to have more problems with erection and with completing intercourse. This is because of the higher blood pressure that smoking causes. The circulation of a man’s blood stream is not moving at a normal pace, but at a much higher pace. Because of this, a narrowing of blood vessels in the pelvic area occurs, which reduces the blood flow. Smoking causes the chemicals in your blood stream to alter in the context of your body’s functioning, adversely affecting your sex life.

Women may experience the same types of problems with sexual performance and function if they are smoking. Smoking causes the hormones in the blood stream to function at a much lower level than normal. Because of the uneven flow of hormones and cardiovascular functioning, women will have a slower ovulatory response time.

Another problem that may occur for female smokers is through the use of oral contraceptives. If you are taking oral contraceptives and also smoke, cardiovascular problems can result. This is because the hormones from the contraceptives cause a change in women’s blood pressure. This will react not only with the woman’s nautural hormones, but will also react with the chemicals present in a woman’s body from smoking. Such cardiovascular diseases can include blood clots, heart attacks and strokes.

If you are attempting to fall pregnant, smoking may well as interfere with fertility. This is because of the chemicals that are found in cigarettes. These chemical effect changes in the cervical fluid in a woman’s body, causing it to become toxic. If the male partner smokes, the chances of a woman becoming pregnant also remain low. The same toxic chemicals can move into a man’s sperm, causing gene mutations, miscarriage, birth defects, cancer, and other problems for the baby.

Pregnant women who smoke have several risks factors. Cigarettes are filled with several chemicals that are bad for the health of the child. The chemicals in the tobacco are passed directly from the mother to the fetus. Smoking during pregnancy can cause premature birth, miscarriage, and other problems with the unborn child. Nicotine levels in an infant are often high when they are born, causing withdrawal symptoms to occur for a period of time after they are born. The baby is likely to remain less healthy than infants born to non-smoking parents.

Smoking is detrimental to your sex life in many ways. Hormonal changes and shifts in blood flow are two of the major changes that occur to smokers.

Cessation of smoking will permit a normalized pace of your blood circulation to resume. This will provide for a more fulfilling experience for both you and your partner.
